“IRT has no hesitation in recommending MDF Group, for any works, including aged care works”

Darren Jackson
Project Manager

Peakhurst Aged Care – Illawarra retirement trust

Scope:

Extension & alterations to the buildings and services at Elizabeth Kemp Cottage. A two storey extension to the existing facility with 12 new bedrooms, ensuites and common areas. The project was staged and existing residents were relocated back into the new extension upon its completion and the existing ‘twelve bedroom’ Elizabeth Kemp Cottage was also re-developed to be both modern as well as compliant.

Constraints

  • Existing residents refrain from entering EKC during construction
  • Construction access
  • The high density existing facility remained operational
  • Shared access points

How those constraints were overcome

Three key elements to overcome constraints

  • Initial planning
  • Design and method planning
  • Execution planning

For example – a precast floor panel system enabled off site components to be built concurrent to early activities albeit heavy lifting was required to straddle existing buildings – this method enabled completion of the fire rated masonry floor to be installed within one day as programmed/planned.

All other deliveries carefully planned & staged to minimise any disruption to the village residents and staff.

Conclusion/Summary

A remarkably intense, sensitive and difficult project completed (time, cost and quality) with a happy client as a result.
