Does your facility have old halogen down lights?
Old halogen down lights often have iron core transformers, which get quite hot and can be a fire risk, especially when surrounded with insulation as shown in the adjacent photos.
In some installations such as this one, the fittings have been installed far too close to the roofing timbers. This installation in non-conforming with AS3000: Electrical installations.
LED lights are suitable replacements for halogen lamps. LED lights generate very little heat and can reduce the fire risk associated with halogens, as well as reducing electricity costs & the heat load on air-conditioning systems.
Under the Energy Savings Scheme, you may be eligible for a rebate against the cost of replacing the Halogen lights with new LED fittings. The energy savings will generally pay off the difference in between on & three years.
The recommended replacement for 50w Halogen fitting are new 16w LED fittings which will produce a level of light suitable for Aged Care Facilities.
