cost versus accuracy

The degree of project definition is the single most important factor controlling the accuracy of an estimate. The graph below depicts the proportionate cost versus the accuracy attained. It follows then that in the early stages the cost of an estimate is relatively low and the error possibility is high. As the design data is gathered the design as well as the estimate becomes more refined and the accuracy of the estimate is increased.
